In July, the number of foreign guests in hotels and guesthouses rose again, in Žilinský kraj they exceeded the numbers before the pandemic
The total number of guests in hotels and guesthouses in Slovakia increased year-on-year even in July, but it was still not possible to reach the number of visitors from July 2019. Domestic guests in 3 out of 8 regions decreased year-on-year, but foreigners returned to Slovakia more significantly. Their number rose by double digits in all regions.
The total number of visitors to hotels, guesthouses and other tourism accommodation establishments in Slovakia in July 2023 reached 661 000 people, which represented a year-on-year increase by 9%. Providers of accommodation still lacked 51 000 (7%) visitors compared to the number of visitors in the successful pre-pandemic year. The number of nights that guests spent in tourism establishments slightly exceeded 2 million, which was by a tenth more than a year ago. The average length of stay was 3 nights.
The increase in accommodation indicators is still mainly influenced by the lower comparative base from July 2022, when guests gradually returned to accommodation establishments after the two-year COVID-19 pandemic.

More than half of the total number of guests, i.e. 394 000 people (60%) were domestic visitors. The number of domestic guests reached last year's level, but 5% of them was still missing from the pre-Covid numbers of July 2019. 5 out of 8 regions- Bratislavský, Trenčiansky, Nitriansky Banskobystrický and Košický kraj managed to attract more Slovak visitors, year-on-year.

267 000 foreign visitors used accommodation services in Slovakia in July, which was a 22% year-on-year increase in the number of visitors. Their number rose significantly year-on-year in all regions, but this is only a consequence of the return of foreigners after the pandemic. With the exception of one region, however, the number of foreign visitors still lags behind the situation in July 2019. The only region that already recorded more foreign visitors than in July 2019 was Žilinský kraj. In absolute numbers, the most foreigners visited Bratislavský kraj (90 000), Žilinský kraj (59 000) and Prešovský kraj (43 000 foreign visitors). Together, these three regions accounted for almost three quarters of the total foreign visitors.
In total, in the first seven months of 2023, 3.2 million guests were accommodated in tourism establishments, which represents a year-on-year increase by almost 30%. 9% of guests were missing from the total number of visitors in the comparable period of 2019. The number of foreign visitors rose by almost half year-on-year, domestic visitors increased by 18%.
