Statistics in the field of health covers two parts - health statistics and statistics on incapacity to work due to disease and accident.
Data in health statistics are collected mainly within the annual state statistical surveys performed under the Ministry of Health of the SR by the National Health Information Centre. It is concerned about the data from the domains of: outpatient and inpatient health care, common curative and diagnostic units, network of health care facilities in the SR and health status. The National Health Information Centre also has available other data on the health status of inhabitants from the statistical surveys realised on the basis of legislation of the Ministry of Health of the SR (www.nczisk.sk).
Another data sources on health are the administrative data sources of the Public Health Authority of the SR (www.uvzsr.sk), the State Institute for Control of Drugs (www.sukl.sk), health insurance companies and the Social Insurance Agency (www.socpoist.sk). Basic data on health is available in the Statistical Yearbook of the SR, the Social Trends of the SR and in other publications of the Statistical Office of the SR.
The sample survey - the European Health Interview Survey (EHIS) belongs also to the health statistics. It is realised according to common European methodology and its aim is to obtain internationally comparable data on health status, health care and health determinants of population. The survey is realised regularly every 5 years in all EU Member States on the base of COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2018/255 implementing Regulation (EC) No 1338/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards statistics based on the European Health Interview Survey (EHIS).
European Health Interview Survey - EHIS 2019 is the third wave implementing under conditions of Slovakia. Statistical health data, which are collecting within the period from 1-st July to 31-st December 2019 through personal interview on sample of 8 000 respondents aged 15 and over, are of high importance not only for purpose of international comparison but also for fulfilling political needs and requirements contained in specific European strategies. They are essential basis for solving actual issues relating to health of EU population, such as aging process in population, health inequality, quality and functioning of health care systems.
Results of selected indicators from previous waves 2009 and 2014 are disseminated on www.statistics.sk in the part Indicators and in publications EHIS 2009 – Európske zisťovanie o zdraví a Pohľad na zdravotný stav obyvateľstva SR and jeho determinanty (výsledky EHIS 2014).
Statistics on incapacity to work contains a broad range of information on incapacity for work due to illness and injury by the NACE classification, territory and other criteria.
It covers the data on average number persons covered by sickness insurance, newly notified cases of incapacity for work (IW) and calendar IW days due to disease, accidents at work and other injuries, data on accidents at work (including fatal) and occupational diseases, on compensations for accidents at work and occupational diseases and data on employees at hazardous workplaces.
The data on incapacity for work was collected by the annual exhaustive state statistical survey till the year 2006. Since the year 2007 the data has been processed and received from the administrative data sources of the Social Insurance Agency, the National Labour Inspectorate (www.nip.sk) and the Public Health Authority of the SR.
