Selected Indicators - Methodological notes

Internal trade and food service activities

The branch of internal trade includes subjects with the following prevailing activity:

  • - wholesale, retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles
  • - wholesale trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles
  • - retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles.

Wholesale, retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles includes activities: sale of motor vehicles, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories, sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and related parts and accessories.

Wholesale trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles includes activities: wholesale on fee or contract basis, wholesale of agricultural raw materials and live animals, wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco, wholesale of household goods, wholesale of information and communication equipment, wholesale of other machinery, equipment and supplies, other specialised wholesale and non-specialised wholesale.

Retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles includes activities: retail sale in non-specialised stores, retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores, retail sale of automotive fuel in specialised stores, retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores, retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores, retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores, retail sale of other goods in specialised stores, retail sale via stalls and markets and retail sale not in stores, stalls or markets.

The branch of accommodation and food service activities includes subjects with the following prevailing activity:

  • - accommodation
  • - food and beverage service activities.

Accommodation includes activities: hotels and similar accommodation, tourist and other short-stay accommodation, camping grounds, recreational vehicle parks and trailer parks and other accommodation.

Food and beverage service activities include activities: restaurants and mobile food service, event catering and other food service activities and beverage serving activities.

Detailed classification of above mentioned activities is used by the Statistical Classification of Economic Activities SK NACE Rev. 2.

Data are the result of monthly processing of statistical reports. They are observed exhaustively on enterprises registered in the business register and contributory organization with a number of employees of 20 and above and subjects with a number of employees 0-19 with annual turnover of 5 Mill. EUR and more. The sample survey is conducted in enterprises registered in the business register and contributory organization with a number of employees of up to 19 with annual turnover to 5 Mill. EUR. Data on tradesmen are estimated monthly.

Monthly data of the last quarter are preliminary and are adjusted on the basis of processed quarterly reports. Published indices are calculated to the same period of last year = 100, where indices of turnover for wholesale except of motor vehicles and motorcycles are calculated at current prices, other indices of turnover are calculated at constant prices of the average of year 2010.

Definitions:

Turnover includes all receipts from self-manufactured goods and services and receipts for goods, which are conducted by an enterprise for all its activities. Data are aggregated in accordance with main economic activity of enterprises and are without value added tax.

Average number of employed persons includes average registered number of employees and self-employed persons.

Average registered number of employees in natural persons includes permanent and temporary employees who have a contract of employment or service with the employing organisation regardless they were really at work or not, e.g. due to illness, recovery holidays etc. and also the employees who were not working e.g. due to work stoppage, strikes or disputes as well as part-time employees who had their working time not divided into each working day and the employees carried out the work only occasionally on call or by needs of organisation. Excluded are persons on maternity leave, apprentices and students in practice, private entrepreneurs and their associates, persons with the agreement on work performed outside an employment relationship.

Average nominal monthly wage includes an amount of wage expenditures, paid to own employees as a compensation for work or its recompensation on the basis of legal relationships (work, service or membership relation) to the employer. It is a gross wage, including legal or with employee agreed deductions. Data are without entrepreneur incomes.
