According to § 4, 8 and 11 of the Act on State Statistics No. 540/2001 Coll. as amended, the tasks of state statistics are performed by the bodies carrying out state statistics, which are the following:

• Statistical Office of the SR,

and other bodies carrying out state statistics:

• Ministry of Transport of the SR,
• Ministry of Culture of the SR,
• Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of the SR,
• Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the SR,
• Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the SR,
• Ministry of Interior of the SR,
• Ministry of Health of the SR,
• Ministry of the Environment of the SR,
• Ministry of Economy of the SR,
• State Material Reserves of the SR,
• Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services,
• Institute of Informatics and Statistics (INFOSTAT).

Functioning of the National Statistical System requires an organized approach of its components in the field of statistics and particularly towards the bodies of the European Union. In accordance with the law, the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic as a central state administration body for statistics and the contact point for the Commission (Eurostat) within the European Statistical System is responsible for the coordination of the National Statistical System.

A Coordination Council for State Statistics is established to ensure the performance of the tasks of the Statistical Office of the SR pursuant to Section 8(1)(k) of the Act on State Statistics.
